The Poozies
The Community will have the opportunity to see and hear one of Scotland's outstanding bands, 'The Poozies' in concert in Finzean Hall on the 25th May.
The Poozies traditional instrumental music and song is described as ' bursting with energy' - ranging from the contemporary to the ancient Gaelic - this is a refreshingly wonderful sound.
The concert proceeds will go towards this years Harvest Folk Festival (the second hairst), which is already arranged again for the 28th/29th/30th of September. More information on that to follow but the Festival launches on the 28th with a special 'Harvest Supper' in the Finzean Hall with Guest speaker Shirley Spear from the Three Chimneys Restaurant on Skye. Shirley will be enthusing the audience about the importance of Scottish recipes and the links with our local culture. Harvest songs and tunes will add to the evening - Shirley would prefer if someone else did that bit. Supper is provided by Potarch Hotel chef/patron, Che Mueller.
Tickets for the Poozies concert on the 25th May - £10 and are available from

DVD launch "The Turning of a Year"
The Turning of A Year
The Premier of this new DVD, produced and written by Frieda Morrison, will take place in Birse and Feughside Church, on the 19th of November at 7 30 pm. The planning of this project began in the summer of 2008, and it captures on film local people from the community, who played their part in making the following year such a memorable one The Year of the Homecoming and Finzean 400, the Farmers Ball, the Harvest Thanksgiving, the Construction of the Graveyard, the launch of Poot, with other local events, are shown throughout the “Turning of A Year”, and the spectacular countryside provides a backdrop of the changing seasons. Some of the music which was specially written by Frieda herself, includes “Ab’s Tune” named after Ab Littlejohn, the former Estate Forester, who played such a large part in creating the wooded landscape of the Finzean valley. Paul Anderson very kindly provided some of the background fiddle music, and Hector Riddell the Bothy Ballad King, also appears on the DVD. David Duncan gives his own unique contribution recording the working of his own historic Water Mill. This is, as one would expect of Frieda, a highly professional production.
Paul Anderson and Frieda’s Choir who played their part in the production will be present during the evening. Admission will be free, and a glass of wine will be provided. An opportunity to buy a copy, will take place during the course of the evening, and this might well be of interest for a Christmas present to many of our local exiles. The DVD may also be obtained at the Finzean Farm Shop.It is hoped that when the expences of having created the disc are met, there will be a profit which will be devided between local charities
